Save the Green Planet!
A man convinced aliens are infiltrating Earth kidnaps a CEO to torture the truth out of him. Nothing prepares you for where it goes.
Byeong-gu, with his tightrope-walker girlfriend, abducts a pharmaceutical executive he believes is an alien from Andromeda, and sets about torturing a confession out of him in his basement.
Jang Joon-hwan made a film that begins as a torture comedy, becomes a police procedural, becomes a study of abuse and grief, and ends somewhere no synopsis can prepare you for, and the tonal control across all of it is extraordinary.
It flopped completely in Korea in 2003 and has become one of the most beloved cult films in the country's cinema, precisely because it refuses to be one thing.
Shin Ha-kyun is remarkable as a man who is either mad or right, and the film keeps you genuinely uncertain until the last minutes.
Bong Joon-ho has cited it. It is one of the great one-of-a-kind films and it is finally getting the reputation it deserves.

Adjacent
Delirium
A Vietnam veteran, a vigilante group and a plot that gives up. Not the Lamberto Bava one.
Penda's Fen
A BBC play about a repressed vicar's son in the English countryside, and it is one of the strangest things ever broadcast.
I Miss You, Hugs and Kisses
A Canadian courtroom drama about a real murder. Its presence on the list is inexplicable.
Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Sissy
An Australian wellness influencer at a hen weekend. Much sharper and much nastier than the premise suggests.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
