Obscurity
How this site decides what counts as a deep cut.
Every film here carries an obscurity score from 0 to 100, where 100 means effectively nobody has seen it and 0 means everybody has.
It is derived at seed time from how many Wikipedia language editions carry an article about the film, or from TMDB vote counts where available. Both are proxies for reach rather than measurements of it, and both are imperfect.
The scale is logarithmic, because the distribution is brutal. The Exorcist has articles in dozens of languages; a regional shot-on-video slasher has one. A linear scale would flatten everything below the top few hundred films into a single indistinguishable bucket.
The labels on film cards map to bands: canon, known, cult, obscure, deep cut, unwatched.
It is a discovery tool, not a judgement. A film being canon says nothing about whether it is good, and several of the most obscure entries here are on the site precisely because they deserve better.
