The Philippou brothers' second, and considerably harder to sit through than Talk to Me.
A half-brother and sister are placed with a foster carer after their father's death. She has another child already. She has lost a daughter.
Sally Hawkins is the reason to watch and the reason it is difficult: she plays Laura as warm, funny and disarming, and the film keeps her sympathetic long past the point where the audience knows what she is doing.
The brothers' method is intact from the first film, which is to establish real grief and then refuse to let the horror be an escape from it.
There is a sequence involving a boy and a kitchen that is among the most upsetting things in recent horror, and it is filmed without any cutting away.
The blind sister and the videotapes are the structural spine. Do not put this on lightly.

Adjacent
Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Attachment
A Danish-Jewish folk horror about a dybbuk, a mother, and a relationship the mother will not permit.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
Mardi Gras Massacre
An Aztec-obsessed killer in New Orleans. A Blood Feast remake in all but name, and slower.
Exposé
The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
Don't Go Near the Park
Cursed cave dwellers from 12,000 BC eating people in modern Los Angeles. Incoherent throughout.
