Possession
A divorce film with a tentacle in it. Adjani's U-Bahn scene is the most extreme acting on this site.
Zulawski wrote it during his own divorce and it is not subtle about that. A man returns to Berlin, his wife wants to leave him, and the film escalates from marital argument to something that cannot be summarised without sounding ridiculous.
Isabelle Adjani won at Cannes for it and has said it took her years to recover. The miscarriage sequence in the U-Bahn underpass is a single take of an actress screaming and convulsing against tiled walls for three minutes, and there is nothing else like it in cinema.
It is filed as a video nasty, which on any reading is absurd: it was an official Cannes selection and Adjani won best actress. It was on the DPP list because it has a tentacle creature in it and somebody was working from a list of titles.
Difficult, and not in the way most difficult films are difficult.

DPP 72 · listed, then dropped
An official Cannes selection for which Isabelle Adjani won best actress, listed as a video nasty in Britain. The tentacle creature appears to have been the whole of the case against it.

Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Attachment
A Danish-Jewish folk horror about a dybbuk, a mother, and a relationship the mother will not permit.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
Mardi Gras Massacre
An Aztec-obsessed killer in New Orleans. A Blood Feast remake in all but name, and slower.

The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
Don't Go Near the Park
Cursed cave dwellers from 12,000 BC eating people in modern Los Angeles. Incoherent throughout.
