A punk band play the wrong venue and see something they should not have.

They are broke, siphoning petrol to get to gigs, and they take a last-minute booking at a skinhead club in the Oregon woods. They open with a Dead Kennedys cover as a joke. Then a member goes back for a phone charger.

Jeremy Saulnier does not flinch and does not stylise. The violence is fast, badly aimed and mostly a matter of who is nearer the door, and injuries are catastrophic and permanent in a way film violence almost never is.

Patrick Stewart plays the owner as a calm operations manager solving a logistics problem, with no menace in the voice at all, which is far worse.

Anton Yelchin is superb and this was one of his last films.
