The Untold Story
A Macau restaurateur and the pork buns. Anthony Wong won Best Actor for it, which tells you about Hong Kong in 1993.
Based on a real case from 1985. A man takes over a restaurant after the owner's family disappear, and the police are slow, incompetent and more interested in each other than the case.
Herman Yau alternates broad police-station comedy with sequences of extreme, sustained violence, and the whiplash is deliberate and extremely unpleasant.
Anthony Wong's performance is the film. He plays Wong Chi-hang as a man with a short fuse and no interiority whatsoever, and the interrogation scenes are frightening because he is so plainly capable of anything.
He won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor for it.
It was Category III, which was Hong Kong's adults-only rating and which produced an entire cycle of films like this in the early 1990s.

Adjacent
Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
Mardi Gras Massacre
An Aztec-obsessed killer in New Orleans. A Blood Feast remake in all but name, and slower.
Exposé
The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
Don't Go Near the Park
Cursed cave dwellers from 12,000 BC eating people in modern Los Angeles. Incoherent throughout.
Frozen Scream
Every line is dubbed, including scenes with nobody talking. Almost hypnotically incompetent.
