Speak No Evil
Danish. About politeness, and the ending is the bleakest thing in this decade of horror.
Danish, about politeness, and the ending is the bleakest thing this decade of horror has produced.
A Danish family befriend a Dutch family on holiday in Tuscany and are invited to stay with them for a weekend months later. Small things are wrong from the moment they arrive. Every single one could be excused as a cultural difference, and every single time, they excuse it.
Christian Tafdrup builds the film entirely out of moments where a normal person would say something and does not. The dinner where Bjørn is served meat after saying he is vegetarian is the whole film in miniature.
The last fifteen minutes answer the question the film has been asking with a directness almost nothing else attempts, including a line of dialogue that is the coldest thing in the genre.
The American remake changes the ending completely. Watch this one.

Adjacent
Delirium
A Vietnam veteran, a vigilante group and a plot that gives up. Not the Lamberto Bava one.
Penda's Fen
A BBC play about a repressed vicar's son in the English countryside, and it is one of the strangest things ever broadcast.
I Miss You, Hugs and Kisses
A Canadian courtroom drama about a real murder. Its presence on the list is inexplicable.
Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Sissy
An Australian wellness influencer at a hen weekend. Much sharper and much nastier than the premise suggests.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
