The King novel everyone said was unfilmable, filmed. One bed, two handcuffs, and a degloving.

A couple go to a lake house to repair their marriage. He handcuffs her to the bed, has a heart attack, and dies. Nobody is coming.

Mike Flanagan solves the interiority problem by externalising it: Jessie hallucinates her dead husband and a version of herself, and the two of them argue at the bedside for most of the running time, which turns a woman alone into a three-hander.

Carla Gugino is doing an enormous amount of work and it is the best performance in Flanagan's filmography.

The escape sequence is one long practical effect and it is filmed without cutting away. People who are fine with everything else on this site cannot watch it.

The epilogue is the weakest part and it is in the book too.
