We Are What We Are is a 2010 Mexican psychological horror film directed by Jorge Michel Grau.

Jorge Michel Grau's film opens with a man collapsing dead in a shopping mall and being mopped up before the crowd notices.
His family are cannibals, and the film is entirely about the domestic logistics that follow: which sibling takes over, what the mother permits, and the fact that they are poor and the city does not care about the people they take.
It is shot in grey daylight in real neighbourhoods and treats the practice as a family business in decline rather than as an exotic horror.
The police in it are corrupt, bored and only interested once a body appears somewhere inconvenient.
Remade in America in 2013 by Jim Mickle, relocated to rural New York, and that version is also good and completely different.
