Mardi Gras Massacre is a 1978 American slasher film directed by Jack Weis. It is one of the 72 films on the Director of Public Prosecutions' video nasties list, and it was successfully prosecuted for obscenity.

A man believes he is serving an Aztec deity and is selecting the most evil woman he can find in New Orleans, which he establishes by asking. He then performs a heart extraction on an altar. This happens three times, at length, filmed almost identically.
Jack Weis shot it around real Mardi Gras footage, which gives it a documentary texture the rest of the film cannot support.
Herschell Gordon Lewis had at least a huckster's energy. This has none, and the repetition is the whole structure.
Successfully prosecuted then not submitted to the BBFC for almost forty years. It was finally passed 18 uncut in 2022.
