Infinity Pool

Brandon Cronenberg again. Wealthy tourists, a legal loophole and Mia Goth having a wonderful time.

Wealthy tourists, a fictional country with a specific legal loophole, and Mia Goth having the time of her life.

A failed novelist on holiday at a fenced resort kills a farmer in a road accident. Local law requires execution by the victim's eldest son, but for a fee the state will produce a perfect clone to be executed in his place while he watches.

Brandon Cronenberg then works out what a group of very rich people would do with that, and the answer is a season of it.

The film is about impunity and it is not gentle. The doubling sequences are shot as sensory assault, with the same visual grammar his father used and considerably more colour.

Alexander Skarsgård is essentially a passenger in his own film, which is the point.

The uncut version is the one to find.

Every line is dubbed, including scenes with nobody talking. Almost hypnotically incompetent.
