Unrated, made for around two million dollars, outgrossed studio horror on release, and the effects are the entire proposition.

Art the Clown returns at Christmas. There is a chainsaw and a sleeping bag in the first ten minutes.

Damien Leone does the makeup and effects himself, which is why they are the reason the films exist. They are practical, extremely elaborate, and pushed considerably further than anything else being released theatrically.

There is no argument to make about subtext. The films are a delivery mechanism for set pieces and are entirely honest about it, and the audience that turns up knows exactly what it is buying.

David Howard Thornton's performance is excellent physical comedy, which is the thing that separates Art from every other masked killer.

Nobody should watch this who is not already certain they want to.
