A German alpine resort, Hunter Schafer, Dan Stevens doing an accent, and it is deeply strange in a way that is either the point or the problem.

Gretchen moves to a Bavarian resort with her father's new family. The proprietor takes an unusual interest in her. There is a woman in the woods who makes a sound that causes people to vomit and loop.

Tilman Singer commits fully to a dream register: the film is not interested in explaining its biology and the exposition, when it arrives, is thrown away in a single scene.

The sound design is the horror, and the looping effect, where a character repeats the same seconds while Gretchen watches, is a novel idea.

Schafer is very good and does most of it on a bicycle at night.

Stevens is playing something closer to a Bond villain than a horror antagonist, which some people love.
