Cannibal Apocalypse

Vietnam veterans come home with a bite that spreads. A better idea than the film delivers.

Vietnam veterans come home carrying something transmitted by a bite, and the infection spreads through Atlanta.

The idea is better than the cycle it got filed into. It is not really a cannibal film at all; it is a returning-veteran film in the mode of Rolling Thunder, with the trauma made literal and contagious, and the flashback that opens it is the strongest thing in the picture.

John Saxon is doing real work as a man who knows what he is and is trying to hold a suburban life together anyway.

Antonio Margheriti was a competent journeyman and the film is watchable throughout, which cannot be said for most of the list.

Successfully prosecuted. The sewer finale and a hole through a torso are what did it.
