The technique is the story: rigs of twenty phones capture a moment from every angle at once, which Boyle uses for bullet-time inserts cut against archive footage of Olivier's Henry V and a recording of Boots' Rudyard Kipling.

The infected have evolved into distinct forms and the alphas are a genuine escalation.

What nobody was prepared for is that it is largely a film about death, care and a mother who is ill, and the last twenty minutes take a hard tonal turn that has divided people completely.

Ralph Fiennes is the best thing in it.
