Dead Snow

Nazi zombies in the Norwegian mountains, and it knows exactly how silly it is.

Medical students at a snowbound cabin dig up a tin of gold coins that belonged to an SS unit driven into the mountains at the end of the war. The unit comes back for it.

Tommy Wirkola made it as a straight gore comedy with total commitment, and the second half, once the snow is red, is a sustained slapstick massacre that owes as much to Raimi as to Romero.

The zombies are disciplined, fast and led by a Standartenführer, which is a better idea than most Nazi-zombie films manage.

The intestine sequence on the cliff is the set piece and is very funny.

It is not deep and does not pretend to be. The sequel, made in English with Martin Starr, is even more excessive and arguably better.
