Sold in Italy as Zombi 2, a fake sequel to Dawn of the Dead, which had been released there as Zombi. It has no connection to it whatsoever.

Two sequences carry the whole reputation. The shark was real, the stuntman was a shark handler, and the shark had been sedated, which is the sort of production fact that explains why nobody has attempted the shot since. And the splinter, which is filmed in a single unbroken push and is the reason this was one of the first titles the DPP went after.

Fulci is not a careful director and the plot is scaffolding. What he had was a genuine eye for decay: the makeup here, worms and soil packed into the faces, is better than anything in the American films it was imitating.
