Thriller: A Cruel Picture
Banned outright in Sweden. The coldest film in this category and the one Kill Bill is built from.
The coldest film in this category, banned outright in Sweden, and the one Tarantino has said Kill Bill is built from.
A mute girl is abducted, addicted to heroin, forced into prostitution, and has an eye cut out for resisting. She spends her one day off a week learning to shoot, drive and fight.
Bo Arne Vibenius made it under a pseudonym after working as an assistant to Bergman, and has said he set out deliberately to make the most commercial and most unpleasant film possible.
The technique is what makes it unbearable. The revenge sequences are shot in extreme slow motion, so a shotgun blast takes twenty seconds, and there is no score at all in long stretches.
Christina Lindberg has no dialogue in the entire film.
The eye surgery is real footage of a real procedure on a cadaver, which Vibenius has confirmed.

Where to watch
No legal stream, rental or disc found in the regions we check. For a lot of these that is the normal state of affairs.

Adjacent
Blood Rites
Andy Milligan shooting in Staten Island with a hand-held Auricon. An acquired taste nobody acquires.
Fight for Your Life
A home invasion built entirely on racial abuse. Genuinely hard to watch and not for craft reasons.
Mardi Gras Massacre
An Aztec-obsessed killer in New Orleans. A Blood Feast remake in all but name, and slower.
Exposé
The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
The Witch Who Came from the Sea
Millie Perkins is extraordinary in it. A sad film about incest and memory, banned as a gore film.
Don't Go Near the Park
Cursed cave dwellers from 12,000 BC eating people in modern Los Angeles. Incoherent throughout.
