The Perfection

Swerves three times and mostly earns them. Best watched knowing nothing at all.

Swerves three times, and mostly earns them.

Two cellists, one of whom left the elite conservatory years ago and one of whom took her place. They meet in Shanghai. That is as much as should be said.

Richard Shepard uses a rewind device that could be irritating and is instead the engine: the film literally reverses and shows you the same scene with the information you were missing, twice.

Allison Williams and Logan Browning are both very good and the film needs them to be, because a single flat performance would collapse it.

The last ten minutes go somewhere the first act does not prepare you for at all, and what the film turns out to be about is considerably angrier than the thriller it was pretending to be.

Best watched knowing nothing.
