The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue

Zombies caused by an agricultural radiation device, shot in the Lake District. Much better than it sounds.

The best film on the DPP list that almost nobody has seen, and it was shot in the Lake District.

An agricultural radiation device intended for pest control is reanimating the recently dead. A young man and woman are blamed by a police inspector who has decided they are the sort of people who cause things.

Jorge Grau shot it in England with an Italian crew and a Spanish producer, and the location work is extraordinary: green, wet, overcast countryside, filmed with the sound design carrying most of the dread.

The politics are explicit and hold up. The inspector's contempt for long-haired young people is the engine of the plot, and the ending is bleak in a way that feels earned rather than fashionable.
