Lamb

Icelandic, extremely slow, and entirely dependent on you accepting the thing in the second act, which the film presents with no comment whatsoever.

A childless couple farming sheep in a remote valley deliver a lamb and take it into the house. They name it Ada. They dress it. They put it in a cot.

Valdimar Jóhannsson does not explain, does not wink and does not treat it as strange. The camera stays wide, the valley is enormous, the weather is constant, and the couple's grief for a previous child is never spoken about directly.

Noomi Rapace plays it with total conviction, which the film absolutely requires.

The reveal of what Ada actually looks like is withheld for a long time and is handled matter-of-factly.

The ending is abrupt and cruel and correct. It is a folk tale, not a horror film, and it should be watched as one.
