Frozen

Three people stuck on a chairlift when the resort closes for the week. That is the film.

Adam Green shot it on a real mountain in Utah in real cold, with the actors actually suspended, which is why the performances get worse in a good way as it goes on: they are tired and freezing.

The horror is arithmetic. Nobody is coming for five days, the drop is high enough to break a leg and not high enough to kill you, and there are wolves. Every option is worked through in dialogue and each one is worse than staying.

The hand sequence is the one people talk about and it is a single practical effect.

It is about seventy minutes of good idea in a ninety-minute film, and the first act is weaker than everything after it.
