Dead & Buried
Eerie, well made, and completely undeserving of the list. Stan Winston's effects.
The most inexplicable name on the DPP list. A well-reviewed film with a major studio cast, effects by Stan Winston, a script credited to Dan O'Bannon, and it was listed alongside Bruno Mattei.
A New England fishing village is killing visitors and the visitors keep turning up alive afterwards, working in the shops. The sheriff investigating is slower to work it out than the audience, which is normally a flaw and here is the point.
Jack Albertson plays the mortician as a delighted craftsman with a gramophone, and it was his last role. The film is truly eerie in a way almost nothing else on the list attempts: it is quiet, coastal and overcast, and its horror is bureaucratic.
Passed 18 uncut and nobody has ever produced a coherent account of why it was on the list at all. The needle in the opening is the usual guess.

Adjacent
Delirium
A Vietnam veteran, a vigilante group and a plot that gives up. Not the Lamberto Bava one.
Penda's Fen
A BBC play about a repressed vicar's son in the English countryside, and it is one of the strangest things ever broadcast.
I Miss You, Hugs and Kisses
A Canadian courtroom drama about a real murder. Its presence on the list is inexplicable.
Sissy
An Australian wellness influencer at a hen weekend. Much sharper and much nastier than the premise suggests.
Exposé
The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
The Slayer
A painter's nightmares kill people on an off-season island. Genuinely atmospheric and badly underrated.
