Shot over lockdown on Zoom in twelve weeks, runs 56 minutes, and is better than it has any right to be.

Six friends hold a séance over a video call with a medium. One of them does not take it seriously.

Rob Savage cast the actors as themselves, sent them equipment, and had them perform their own effects in their own homes with the crew directing over the call. The result is that the format is not a gimmick: the framing, the connection drops, the filter that stops working and the reliance on a phone torch are all doing narrative work.

The gag with the ceiling and the one with the filter are both excellent.

At 56 minutes it does not outstay its idea by a single scene, which almost nothing else in found footage manages.

It is the only good film to come out of that particular constraint.
