A Lizard in a Woman's Skin

Fulci's best giallo, a fever of LSD dreams and a murder that may not have happened.

A politician's daughter dreams she stabs her hedonistic neighbour to death during an orgy. Then the neighbour is found stabbed to death exactly as dreamed, and she cannot tell whether she did it.

Fulci made it in London and Rome and it is his most stylish film: hallucinatory, fractured, drenched in Ennio Morricone, and truly uncertain about what is real, which is rare for the cycle.

It caused a scandal over a scene involving vivisected dogs so realistic that Fulci had to produce the practical props in an Italian court to avoid animal-cruelty charges, which is the same thing that later happened to Deodato.

Florinda Bolkan plays the daughter and the LSD-party dream sequences are among the most striking images Fulci ever composed.

Also known as Schizoid. It is the film that proves Fulci could do more than gore.
