What Have You Done to Solange?

The most upsetting giallo, and the one with an actual moral centre.

A schoolmistress's students are being murdered in a specific and deliberate manner. An Italian teacher having an affair with a pupil is the first to suspect what connects them.

Massimo Dallamano shot it in London, and the film is unusually restrained for the cycle: the killings are largely off screen and their nature is disclosed by dialogue, which makes them far worse than staging would.

Ennio Morricone's score is one of his most beautiful and is used against the material rather than with it.

The film's subject is the treatment of the girls by every adult in it, and the reveal is truly angry rather than merely a solution.

Considered part of an unofficial trilogy with What Have They Done to Your Daughters? and Rings of Fear.
