The Lost Boys
Joel Schumacher's MTV vampires in a California beach town, and it made the genre cool for a decade.
Two brothers move with their mother to Santa Carla, the murder capital of the world, where a gang of beautiful young men ride motorbikes along the boardwalk and never seem to age.
Schumacher shot it as a rock video: neon, saxophone, mullets, and a soundtrack that defined the year, and the film's genius is that being a vampire is presented as the most attractive possible option, which is why the older brother nearly takes it.
Kiefer Sutherland leads the gang and the Frog brothers, two comic-shop vampire hunters, are the reason half the audience quoted it for years.
The reveal about who the head vampire actually is holds up, and the practical bloodshed in the final act is far nastier than the poster suggests.
It is pure 1987 and it has aged into something beloved.
