Don't Look in the Basement
An asylum where you cannot tell staff from patients. Shot in twelve days in Texas and quite effective.
Shot in twelve days in Texas for almost nothing, and considerably more effective than it has any right to be.
A nurse arrives at an isolated psychiatric hospital where the doctor has been letting patients act out their delusions as therapy. He is dead before she arrives, which she does not know, and the film does not tell her.
The whole thing is one building and a garden, and the tension comes from a simple structure: she cannot tell staff from patients, and neither can the audience, and everybody she asks is unreliable.
S.F. Brownrigg made it as a drive-in second feature and the acting is broad, but the central conceit works and the ending is nasty.

Delirium
A Vietnam veteran, a vigilante group and a plot that gives up. Not the Lamberto Bava one.
Penda's Fen
A BBC play about a repressed vicar's son in the English countryside, and it is one of the strangest things ever broadcast.
I Miss You, Hugs and Kisses
A Canadian courtroom drama about a real murder. Its presence on the list is inexplicable.
Sissy
An Australian wellness influencer at a hen weekend. Much sharper and much nastier than the premise suggests.
Exposé
The only British film on the DPP list. A novelist, a typist and Fiona Richmond in a farmhouse.
The Slayer
A painter's nightmares kill people on an off-season island. Genuinely atmospheric and badly underrated.
