It is based on the 1974 killing of Christine Demeter in Toronto, in which her husband was convicted of arranging her death. The film follows the trial and reconstructs the marriage in flashback.
It has one violent sequence. Otherwise it is a legal procedural with a domestic-abuse subject, made for television sensibilities, and it would pass a 15 today without argument.
The most likely explanation is the title on a video shelf: it sounds like something else entirely, which appears to have been enough in 1983.
